The Planning and Zoning
Office administers and enforces the County Zoning Ordinance #1 and County
Subdivision Ordinance #4 for unincorporated areas of the County. The
department provides staff support to the County Planning Commission and
Board of Adjustment. This department is responsible for the issuance
of building permits and onsite sewage treatment permits. It also
handles the County-wide Enhanced 911 addressing system.
HOW
TO OBTAIN A BUILDING PERMIT:
NEW
HOME &/OR ONSITE SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEM
You must submit:
1.
A design by a licensed designer 1 or 2 for the sewage treatment system that
will serve the dwelling.
Once the design is received a permit can be
issued as long as the proposed dwelling meets all required setbacks from
property lines, road right-of-ways, Overall High Water Levels, is not
located in a flood plain, etc. Calling for an appointment is
advisable.
FEES:
$75.00 Permit/$75.00 E-911 Address
(if one does not already exist)
ACCESSORY
STRUCTURE (Deck, Detached
Garage, or Outbuildings)
You
must:
1. Apply for a
building permit and provide necessary structure dimensions, plans, drawings,
setback information as needed. (No compliance inspection of the septic
system is required for buildings/additions that do not alter the footprint
of the dwelling/occupied structure in length, width, or height.)
FEES: $50.00 Permit
A permit
can be issued as long as the proposed addition/structure meets all required
setbacks from property lines, road right-of-ways, Overall High Water Levels,
is not located in a flood plain, etc. Calling for an appointment is
advisable.
NON-COMPLIANT
SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEMS:
Sewage systems which receive a Notice of
Non-Compliance, either through the permit
process or otherwise, must be replaced within ten months from the date of
the Notice of Non-Compliance.
